Teaser Tuesday: No. 8

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Not going to lie, after finishing and reviewing Love Unscripted by Tina Reber yesterday, I spent the better part of this evening moping around avoiding my Kindle. It's not an unusual response for me, but I normally only have it when I've just finished a book I really liked. Apparently, books I didn't so much like have this power over me too sometimes. Awesome. I think, in this case, the issue is that I fought so hard to make myself finish it and now that it's done I don't quite know what to do. Also, I have a lot of books on the TBR pile and choosing what will come next is never easy for me. But, I managed to do it, and so far, I'm enjoying Slammed by Colleen Hoover.

SlammedSynopsis:
Following the unexpected death of her father, 18-year-old Layken is forced to be the rock for both her mother and younger brother. Outwardly, she appears resilient and tenacious, but inwardly, she's losing hope.

Enter Will Cooper: The attractive, 21-year-old new neighbor with an intriguing passion for slam poetry and a unique sense of humor. Within days of their introduction, Will and Layken form an intense emotional connection, leaving Layken with a renewed sense of hope.

Not long after an intense, heart-stopping first date, they are slammed to the core when a shocking revelation forces their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together, and the secret that keeps them apart.
Teaser:
"May the force be with you!" He laughs and hops into his car as I stand there, staring down at the Darth Vader house shoes I'm still wearing. Classic.

I just started the book, so I thought this one was fun and sort of shows the characters' personalities a bit. Okay, have a lovely Tuesday!  If you're here by way of Teaser Tuesday, please take a moment to say hello so I can visit you, too! :)

So now that summer's here and I've just about finished grad school (I just turned in my thesis yesterday and will graduate in August!!), I'm trying to get back into book blogging. I've posted a few reviews, and have a few more coming as I actually have time to read a book now, but what better way to get back into the community than with memes?! And how better to find new reads than with teasers?!  So, here's mine...

Love Unscripted
Synopsis:  {via Amazon}

Ryan Christensen just wanted to be an actor. Never in his wildest dreams did he ever think he'd become the most sought after film star on the planet. Taryn Mitchell has been feigning contentment while running the family pub in Seaport, Rhode Island. Her peaceful life is tossed upside down when Ryan tries to outrun a group of fans by taking a shortcut through Mitchell's Pub.

Ryan leaned over closer and smelled me again. I instinctively leaned farther away, almost tipping off-balance. His nostrils opened wider and a slight grin appeared on his lips.

"Peach scented perfume?" he asked.
I just started this book, but so far it's pretty good. Enjoy and happy Teaser Tuesday!

It's summer and I'm participating in the 2011 Summer Romance Challenge, so like last week, this week's teaser will be coming from a romance novel! I'm currently reading The Taming of the Rake* by Kasey Michaels and I'm enjoying it. I've not had as much time to read lately as usual, or at least not my usual reading, as I'm embarking this week on researching and writing my thesis introduction, as well as studying for my comprehensive exams. Ah grad school, can't even escape it in the summer! So, without further ado...

"I'll take that as a yes," Beau said, looking longingly at the wine decanter. "How long before he misses you and comes racing hotfoot over here, brandishing a pistol, and demanding I present myself?"

Chelsea glanced assessingly at the mantel clock. "We should probably be going."
*Expected publication date for this novel is July 26th. This tiny excerpt comes from the eARC and is subject to change before publication. Review forthcoming.

Here we are again at Tuesday!  This week, my Book is The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter and I'm really enjoying it so far. I started it last night and should finish it this afternoon, or tomorrow morning.  A review should follow shortly after, but for now, here's my spoiler...

I shrank back from the intensity of his voice. He really did believe what he was saying. "It's impossible," I said softly. "Isn't it?"

"But it is happening, so maybe it is time for you to reevaluate what is possible and whats not."
So there you have it. I know it's more than two sentences, but I couldn't resist! I'm really enjoying this book so far, despite its having received some poor reviews. Isn't the cover beautiful?! I just love it. Anyhow, I hope you're having a great Teaser Tuesday and, if you're participating in Armchair BEA, a good time with that, too!

This last weekend, I've absolutely been devouring the Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins. I'm on Mockingjay right now and made the mistake of reading some spoilers on a wiki, so it's coming along slower than the others because I somehow have less impetus to find out what comes next. Also, I think this one is coming slower because it's the last book in a trilogy, which I always regret. I miss a trilogy when it's over. It's like a series, but ends too soon.  So, this week's teaser is from Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins (11%, Location 570-80).

I want to glare at them, but I feel it would be a mistake to turn my attention from Coin. I can see her tallying the cost of my ultimatum, weighing it against my possible worth.
If you've read the series, do let me know what you thought of it. I've reviewed both The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, and will get up a review for this one as soon as I'm done with it. I hope you're having a great Teaser Tuesday. Please take a moment to say hello, I always enjoy meeting new people and saying hello to those I already know!

I finished The Vampire Narcise a few days ago, posted my review, and am onto other things. After Narcise, I knew I couldn't just pick up another vampire novel and offer it fair treatment, so instead, I'm reading The Hunter Games by Suzanne Collins.  I'm only about 10% on so far, but I'm enjoying it. I'm also finding it terribly difficult to believe this is YA. It's so... dark... and not in the Harry Potter starts out cute and gets darker kind of way. It's dark from the start. I'm sure I'll finish it soon and post a review, but until them, here's my teaser!

The pair last year were two kids from the Seam who'd never, not one day of their lives, had enough to eat. And when they did have food, table manners were surely the last thing on their minds.
You know the kicker is that I don't generally read dystopian. I don't know that it's because I don't enjoy it, I just don't often get around to it. If this is representative of that genre, then I might like to read some more. I'd love some suggestions!

I'm reading several books right now, but the one I'm most enthralled by is Colleen Gleason's The Vampire Narcise. I received it from NetGalley a few weeks ago and am reading it on Kindle.  I knew I just had to read it after reading it's two predecessors, The Vampire Voss and The Vampire Dimitri!  So far, I'm enjoying it better than I did Voss but not as well as Dimitri.  I've learned, though, not to make judgments until the end, since if I'd done that with Voss I'd never have finished it.

Remnants of dreams. As she stared into soft candlelight, a bitter laugh formed in the back of her throat, startling her with its ferocity, and she pressed her lips together.
Trust me, Narcise.

If you enjoy historical, romance, and vampire novels you'll likely enjoy this series. I highly recommend it! Enjoy!
